The next meeting of the Tama County Historical Society will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the Museum in Toledo.
The guest speaker will be Lynn McVey of Burlington, who will speak about "Naturalization".
She will discuss the naturalization process, and how and where to access records.
McVey has worked in the reference department and customer service at the Burlington Public Library for twelve years. She had an interest in genealogy and saw the need to help others get started, so she began teaching basic classes. They are held monthly for two hours and include demonstrations of the use of relevant websites. Her sessions include topics on census, military, passenger lists and death records, besides many others.
On Wednesday evening Ms. McVey will also touch on immigration, the history of citizenship, and the resources available. She will tell of her experiences, and have useful charts and handouts, some of which she has developed herself.
This meeting is open to the public, so bring any questions or problems you have or records you wish to share, and get some help with your research. There will be social time with light refreshments afterwords.
