The South Tama/East Marshall girls soccer team traveled to Reinbeck to take on Gladbrook-Reinbeck squad. ST/EM started the game with Sam Earley in goal; Sadie Kavalier, Hailee Weiss, Grace Kavalier and Cynthia Lares in defense; Araceli Angel, Kristi Lasley, Megan Wanatee and Danni Stubbs in the mid-field; with Guadalupe (Mona) Nunez and Ericka Dunning up front.
The game started up a threat of rain and a stiff wind out of the northeast. Temperatures were in the lower 40s. G-R took the opening kick-off and the game was on. Very quickly, G-R pressed the attack, but the ST/EM defense held. But G-R kept the attack up and ST/EM defense tried to keep the ball out of trouble.
ST/EM mounted a good attack, but G-R had an answer. On a quick counter attack with a thru-ball, G-R went up 1-0. ST/EM on this evening could not find a way to stop the G-R attack. Speed, size and experience was something that ST/EM could not match. G-R scored again at the 13,15,19 and 22-minute marks and finished the scoreing in the first half for a 6-0 half time lead.
The second half found the ST/EM team playing better, but G-R was not to be stopped. G-R scored in the 19, 22 25 and 28-minutes to finish the game with the 10-0 win.
This was a tough game for the team. This was a night that the team was not aggressive and G-R controlled the mid-field. And it ended up with the game being played in from of our goal. We did have a few attacks, but to few to make a difference. Sam Early, even with giving up 10 goals played very well. She stopped over 20 shots and tried to keep the defense organized.
