Jerry David Vavra, 74, Chelsea died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following an illness. Services were Wednesday, April 3, at the Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine with Rev. Charles Johnson presiding. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, at the Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine with Rev. Charles Johnson presiding. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Jerry requested to be cremated and burial will be at a later date in Rector Cemetery, Chelsea.
Jerry was born May 16, 1938 at the Vavra home at rural Chelsea to George and Louise (Seidel) Vavra, a home where he lived his entire life.

He attended Salt Creek No. 9 and Chelsea Public schools. He served on active duty from Feb, 7, 1962 - Dec. 6, 1963 while a member of the U.S. Naval Reserves.
He was a sandpit operator and a sawmill operator.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by a brother, Virgil of Chelsea, special cousin Mable Brezina of Traer, and many cousins.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
