James Emil Ledvina, 78, of Chelsea, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 1, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chelsea with Rev. Michael Mescher, Celebrant and Deacon Joe Behounek presiding. Burial will be in Stayskal Cemetery, rural Chelsea. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the church with a scripture service at 6:15 p.m.
James E. Ledvina was born on the family farm on June 10, 1934, to Emil J. and Edith G. Cummings Ledvina. He graduated from Tama High School and married Sharlene Ann Musel.
In his life, he was a dairy farmer for 40 years as well as being the Tama County Supervisor from 1992 2004. He was on the Tama County Council from 2008 2012. James was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Waterloo Boat and Power Squadron.

He is survived by his wife, Sharlene "Skip"; sons, Dean Ledvina of Chelsea, Charles Ledvina of Katy, Texas, and Kenneth (Marcia) of Avoca; and grandson, Daniel. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joe Ledvina.
James was an avid gardener, and he sold many tomatoes and gave away large amounts of other produce. He also enjoyed playing cards every Saturday morning with friends.
