Veteran appreciates South Tama students recognition

November 24, 2012
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

Letter to the Editor:

In 1969, an Army Corporal was returning from a tour of duty in Vietman. Upon arriving at San Diego, CA he was greeted by protesters of the war. One of the protesters ran up to the soldier and spit in his face yelling 'Why are you fighting this war?'. The soldier's reply was 'So you have the right to stand here and protest and act as childish as you have.'

The attitude of the protesters was the attitude of parts of America during that war period.

I served during this time period and never felt any satisfaction for having served until I attended the Veterans program at the STC High School. When they filled the gym with students and they all stood and clapped to honor those of us who served, it renewed a certain pride I haven't felt for sometime. I hope the other Vets in attendance felt the same.

So a very special THANK YOU to the STC Student Council, Band, Choir, staff and especially the students.

God bless you all and God bless America.
