Tyrus Raymond Wanatee (Ma ka te tti ge), 29, of Tama passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Marshalltown. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Larry Lasley Sr. as speaker. A Traditional Wake was held Friday evening, October 12, at the Galen Wanatee residence, 1425 Meskwaki Road on the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama.

Tyrus was born on June 16, 1983, in Marshalltown, the son of Troy and Brenda (Burns) Wanatee. He graduated from South Tama High School in 2001 and had attended Marshalltown Community College. He enjoyed pen drawing, fishing, and hunting.

Preceding him in death were his paternal grandfather, Gailey C. Wanatee; maternal grandmother, Ann Burns; paternal great-grandmother, Bessie Slick; uncle, Terence L. Wanatee; and cousin, Vanessa Burns.

Survivors include his parents, Troy and Brenda Wanatee of Tama; siblings, Uriah (Delarcy) Wanatee, Carvell Wanatee, Pierce Wanatee, and Miranda Wanatee all of Tama, grandmother, Naomi Wanatee of Tama; grandfather, Roy Burns of Ganado, AZ; uncles Galen Wanatee of Tama, Pat Burns, Russell Burns, and Jerome Burns all of Ganado, AZ ; aunts, Galene Johnson and Diahann Wanatee both of Tama, Patsy Wanatee of Washington state, Judy Johns of Oklahoma, and Sandra Burns Godbey of Ganado, AZ; cousin, Lindsey Wanatee of Tama; and nephews, Tiernan and Abram Wanatee both of Tama.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting with the arrangements.
