After nine months in office as your mayor, I would like to give credit where credit is due.

First of all,- I would like to make you all aware that your city clerk, Julie Wilkerson, is doing an excellent job of handling the city finances. You, as the general public, probably have no idea as to what a mess she stepped into. But with her determination and pride in the city, she has it under control to the best of her ability. It is a real privilege to work with her. Those of you who don't know her, stop in sometime and say hello.

Next would be your police department. As you all know, there was some revamping going on and now everything seems to be paying off as I, for one, sure hear good comments pertaining to Toledo law enforcement. By the first of the year, Chief Bob Kendall will have a full staff so things should be going smoothly. So don't be afraid to wave or say "Hi" when you meet them on the street. Chief Kendall has been doing a good job of notifying property owners to mow grass or get the property cleaned up. It's a slow job, but we are making headway.

Public Works Dept. also has some new leadership since Duane Upah and John Murty retired. Mark Zmolek has been hired as the new department head. So far we have replaced them with one new person. Rob Werner came on staff last fall, and has been doing a wonderful job of helping the crew get things done.

About all I can say about your Fire and EMS is keep up the good work. Between Chief Joe Boll and EMS Director Greg Johnson, they keep things under control.

Public Library Director, Jenny Bledsoe, sure seems to be doing a job with the library. Seems she has something going on a lot of the time. Remember, there's more than just books in a library. Stop in sometime and get acquainted.

I would like to commend the citizens for keeping grass mowed this past summer. I know that between the heat and the drought the lawns got to looking a little rough, but let's hope next year will be better. Keep the pride. Take good care of your properties. Encourage your neighbors to do the same.

If anybody has a problem or concern, bring it to a council meeting or bring it to my attention.

Dave Svoboda, Mayor
