On Saturday August 14, 2010 the descendants of Samuel Giger and Julia Frances (Houdyshell) Giger held their 108th Giger Family Reunion in Toledo at the Reinig Center. There were 30 in attendance to celebrate their pioneer ancestors. A catered meal by Back Door Dinners of Tama was enjoyed all. Pat Jordan and Roger Giger co-chaired the reunion . Sondra Fitzgibbon organized games, entertainment, and prizes.
Dick Mohler (age 94) won the door prize for oldest attendee and Doug Swartz (St, Louis,Mo.) won the long distance prize. Fran Jesina won the door prize of a Geiger tree donated by Roger Giger.
After social time, business meeting, and games, Roger Giger gave a presentation on one the family’s Revolutionary War Patriot Ancestors from whom all attending were descended from-Capt. John George Overmyer and his wife, Barbara Fought. Highlights of the talk included familyhistory, military history, and genealogy of both Capt. John George Overmyer and his wife, Barbara Fought.
Noted life events in the family since the last reunion in 2008 included the following- Deaths- Robert Yin (5/17/10, Sandra Giger’s son); Lottie Giger (6/26/10, wife of the late Willard Giger).
