When this article goes to print we will have our first market under our belt. I do hope there was some produce there for you the customer to purchase. You would think with the early warm weather we had, our gardens would be bursting with young sprouts of vegetables. That is not happening at our house. I don’t know where the time went.

I was so confused, when I was looking at the calendar I seen March and April. But when I went outside I felt May and June. My poor soul didn’t know if I should plant garden or stay in the house to finish up those winter chores. t makes on wonder what kind of growing season this will be.

According to the Farmers’ Almanac, May 3rd-May 4th was an excellent time for planting corn, beans, peppers, and other above ground crops. It was also favorable for sowing hay, fodder crops, grains, and planting flowers.

May5th-7th, you should plant carrots, beets, onions, turnips, and other root crops. Cabbage, lettuce and other leafy vegetables will do well. Good time for transplanting as well.

May8th-9th, do not plant.

May 10th-12th, you should plant late beets, potatoes, onions, carrots and other root crops.

13th-14th, this is the time to kill plant pests on these barren days.

15th-16th, is a favorable time for planting late root crops. It is also good time for vine crops that can be planted now. Good time to set strawberry plants. These days are also good for transplanting.

17th-18th, is poor planting time. But is a fine time for cultivating or spraying.

19th-20th, is favorable planting days. The 19th is good for root crops and a good day for transplanting. The 20th is good for beans, corn, tomatoes, peppers, and above ground crops.

21st-22nd, any seeds planted now will tend to rot.

23rd-24th, is most favorable for planting corn, okra, beans, peppers, eggplant, and other aboveground crops. Plant those seedbeds and flower gardens now.

25th-29th, is a barren period. Good for killing plant pest, cultivating, or taking a short vacation or nap.

30th-31st, this is an excellent time for planting corn, beans, peppers, and other above ground crops. It is favorable for sowing hay, fodder crops, and grains. It’s great for planting flowers.
