Born on September 1, 1939, at home in Tama County, Iowa, he was the only child born to Joseph John and Gertrude Josephine (Kriegel) Spickert. He received his education in the area of his birth.

Ed went on to serve our country honorably in the United States Navy and was taken in by the captain of the ship as a Captain’s Orderly. At the young age of 19, his dad died suddenly but was later blessed by his mom’s marriage to Douglas Anderly, who became his dad. He returned to his home area and began working at Fisher Controls for a short time and later for 39 faithful years at Swifts until retiring in 2002.

On September 28, 1963, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Elizabeth “Betty” Freese, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Since 1963, they made their home with their three children in Marshalltown.

Ed enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and had an eclectic taste in collections- anything from casino chips to watches to knives and straight razors. He possessed a great sense of humor and dearly loved and cherished his family. He was a member of St. Henry’s parish, the Local UAW #893, the Hawkeye Knife Club and was also a certified antique and coin dealer.

Left to cherish his memory is Elizabeth, his loving wife of 52 years, three children: Todd (Ramona) Spickert of Schertz, TX, Dena (Thomas) Triplett of Marshalltown and Jodie (David) Higgason of Eldora; eight grandchildren- Chaz, Alexa and Emma Triplett; Ashley and Emily Spickert; Sierra, Spencer and Sawyer Higgason; his mother Gertrude Anderly and many friends and the family.

In death, Ed rejoined his father Joseph Spickert and step-father Douglas Anderly, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
