Larry was born on November 17, 1937 on the family farm near Montour, Iowa, the son of Robert Henry and Erma Marie (Slingluff) Manfull.

He graduated from Montour High School in 1957. After high school, he had an offer to try out for the Kansas City Royals Baseball Team but chose to stay home and work. He then worked for Cessford Construction for two years. From his first job, he bought a 1957 Chevy Convertible with a Corvette engine. He took the car to the drag race track in Des Moines and held a 1/4 mile speed record. During that time, he earned the nickname “Swan” for his all white car.

On January 1, 1960, he was united in marriage to Joyce Diane Zenor at the Tama Methodist Church. Larry was a farmer at heart and purchased the Manfull Family Heritage Farm in 1979. Larry and Joyce owned and operated the Town Pump in Tama from 1978-1993. In his spare time, he liked going to Lake City, fishing and entertaining his family and friends. He was an avid bowler, played slow-pitch softball and was a master Pepper player. Larry was very accepting of everyone and treated everyone he met as family. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with them.
