Marlene V. Plesek, 79, of Brooklyn died July 6, 2015, at Brooklyn Community Estates, Brooklyn, Iowa.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 8th, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Titus Lehman and Mona Reece officiating. Pianist will be Melinda Yule. Pallbearers will be Ray and Kara Plesek, Kim Creps and Bryden, Nickolas and Cole Jones. Burial will be in Rector Cemetery, near Chelsea.

Visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Marlene Plesek Memorial Fund.

Marlene was born May 31, 1936, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Leland and Josephine Lyzen Goodlaxson. She was raised in Creston and was a 1954 graduate of Creston High School. She attended a junior college in Creston and then graduated from Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls in 1958.

On December 29, 1958, she was united in marriage with Allan Plesek, in Marysville, Missouri. She taught for a short time in elementary schools in Newton and Tacoma, Washington. While her husband served in Korea, she returned to Creston and after his discharge, the couple moved to a farm north of Brooklyn. They retired from farming in 2005 and moved to Brooklyn.

Marlene faithfully served the Lord her whole life. She loved her life on the farm, gardening and reading. She loved her family dearly.

Survivors include her husband, Allan of Brooklyn; two children, Jolee (Dalton) Jones of Montezuma and Douglas (Brenda) Plesek of Brooklyn; one brother, Roy (Jane) Goodlaxson of Altoona; six grandchildren, Bryden Jones of Madison Lake, MN, Nick (Adena) Jones of Springfield, MO, Cole Jones of Deep River, Kim (Curtis) Creps of Chelsea, Ray Plesek of Tama and Kara Plesek of Brooklyn; and two great-grandson’s Easton and Hudson Creps. She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant granddaughter, Kylee Jones.
