Richard F. "Red" Ervin

Richard F. “Red” Ervin, 77, of Tama, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015, at his home in Tama under the care of his family and Hospice of Mercy. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Dewey Grimes officiating. Private interment will be held at a future date. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 12 – 2 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.Richard was born on May 22, 1937 in Cincanatte, IA, the son of John and Edna (Foran) Ervin. On December 13, 1958, he married Darlene Bartling in Des Moines, IA. Prior to his retirement, he worked for the City of Tama and MICA. Richard was a member of the Tama-Toledo Fraternal Order of Eagles and Toledo American Legion. He liked fishing and always cooked for the STC Band Barbeque. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandsons and great-grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene of Tama; one daughter, Karen (Scott) Steuhm of Tama, two grandsons, Scotty Steuhm and Skyler Steuhm both of Tama; one great-grandson, Layne Steuhm of Tama; siblings Jeraldine Bond of Malcom, Rusty (Vicky) Ervin of Tama, and Mary Ervin of Grinnell; a step-sister, Gloria Armstrong of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Earl Ervin; and two sisters, Eleanor “Sissy” Davis and Nyta Lemke.

A memorial fund has been established.
