Leona Mae Krezek

Leona Mae Krezek, 87, of Clutier passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2015 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer with Father Ray Atwood as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 19, 2015 from 5-7 PM at St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer with a Vigil Service and Rosary at 7 PM.

Leona was born on June 28, 1927, in Clutier, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Frances (Zmolek) Yuska.

Leona attended school in Clutier and was one of the Charging Czechs basketball team which won the state basketball tournament in 1942. She attended Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls and later taught at country schools.

On Nov. 27, 1947, she married Vernon Krezek in Clutier. She and her husband lived on a farm her entire married life. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and her wonderful flowers. Leona was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband Vernon of 67 years; two daughters, Joleen (Mark) McCrary of Traer and Judy (Steve) Hook of Le Grand; one son, Randy ( Judy) Krezek of Clutier; five grandchildren, Tami (Tim) Kruse, Todd McCrary, Ryan (Carrie) Hook, Jacey (Jason) Fischer and Jillisa (Chad) Halverson; ten great grandchildren; six sisters, Dorothy Adam of Clutier, Helen Zmolek of Traer, Albina Krizek of Waterloo, Martha Untiedt of Clutier, Maxine Yanda and Betty Krezek, both of Traer; two brothers, Clarence (Sharon) Yuska of Toledo and Ronald (Ruth) Yuska of Tama.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her sister, Eleanor Novotny; four brothers, Stanley, Harry and Melvin Yuska and Joseph Yuska in infancy.

A memorial fund has been established.
