Virginia Mae McFatridge

Virginia Mae McFatridge, 91, of Brooklyn and formerly of Chelsea, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center following a short illness. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine with Rev. Charles Johnson presiding. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Pallbearers will be Larry Clark, Bob McFatridge, Tom Gibson, Mike Bowers, Rick Bracy, and Noah McFatridge and the Honorary Pallbearers will be the remaining grandchildren.Burial is in Rector Cemetery, Chelsea.

Virginia was born Nov. 26, 1923 in Aliceville, Kan. to John and Carrie Loschen Hilligas. She attended school through the 8th grade. She married R. D. McFatridge on Nov. 1, 1943 in Grand Island, Neb.

She had owned and operated a cafe in Chelsea for several years. Later she worked as a waitress for area restaurants. The past few years she resided at the Brooklyn Community Estates.

She is survived by sons, Robert (Sandy) McFatridge of Marion and Richard McFatridge of St. Anne, Illi.; daughters, Linda Bracy and Patty McFatridge, both of Brooklyn; Sharon (Tim) Siebels of Cedar Rapids and Terry Clark of Centerville; brother, Earl Hilligas of Baux, Ark.; sisters Doris (Larry) Frese of Chelsea, Frances (Bob) Kaufman of Traer, Elsie Blomme and Nancy Masterson, both of Belle Plaine; also by s17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers John, Merle, and Calvin; and sister, Dorothy Prusha; son-in-law, David Bracy, Sr.; grandson Casey McFatridge; and several brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
