Ferne I. Cline

Ferne I. Cline, age 95 of Brooklyn, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan.14, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn, with Fr. Brian Shepley officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation will be 4 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. A memorial fund has been established.

Ferne is survived by her children, Patricia Miles (Dennis) of Atkins, Larrry Cline of Brooklyn, George Cline (Jane) of Brooklyn, and Brenda Cline (Scott Johnson) of Grinnell; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Glenn Smith (Joanne) of Waukee and a sister, Arlene Wilcox (Wayne) of Tama. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Francis, a daughter Elizabeth Rhinehart, and a sister Ruth Cline.

Ferne Irene Smith was born November 11, 1919, in rural Iowa, on the Tama- Poweshiek county line, the daughter of Glenn and Stella Mochal Smith. She received her education in the Tama County schools and married Francis Lloyd Cline on Jan. 29, 1941, in Tama. The couple were life-long farmers. Ferne was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn, and the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to a local card club.
