Jean Alice Scudder

Jean Alice Scudder, 83, of Toledo passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015 at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. A Private Graveside Service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo.

Jean was born on February 5, 1931, in Malcom, Iowa, the daughter of Clyde and Edna R. (Wiley) Titcomb. She graduated from Tama High School.

On Oct. 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to Robert Lyman Scudder in Grinnell, Iowa.

Jean assisted her husband in the operations of Scudder’s Maid Rite while raising six children. Jean then worked at Woolco in the Payroll department until its closure in the early ’80’s. Jean later retired from the Iowa State Juvenile Home in Toledo, Iowa. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo, Iowa. Jean loved to travel and was able to visit her daughter in Europe on two separate occasions. Countries she visited include; Italy, Germany, Austria, Scotland and England. Jean enjoyed reading and taking long walks. She enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and playing Bingo with her grandchildren. Ask any of her grandchildren and they will tell you she was the best cook in the world!

Survivors include one son, Dennis (Nancy) Scudder of Marshalltown; three daughters, Catherine (Michael) Savage of Chippewa, Wisc., Debora (James) Herink of Marshalltown and Roberta (Jim) Kruse of North Augusta, South Carolina; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ray Titcomb of Tama.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Robert on June 22, 2010; two sons, Ronald Lee in 1994 and Randall Dean in 1999; one grandson, Zachry Lane; and one great-granddaughter, Makynzee Scudder.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Bickford Assisted Living for providing excellent care to our mother and grandmother during her last years.
