June 3rd, 2022 – After the original Cow Calf statue was damaged beyond repair by the derecho in August of 2020, many members of the Tama-Toledo community put forth an effort to get it replaced and put it back in its original spot.

Toledo Mayor Brian Sokol and Eric Lyon of Tama spoke at the rededication of the statue before it was unveiled to the public. Lyon expressed his gratitude to Sokol for organizing the effort to get it back home where it belongs.

Originally made out of fiberglass and bronze, the statue got an upgrade that will make it more durable going into the future.

Max-Cast created the new statue in Kalona, Iowa, and has handled projects like this in the past, most notably the Hayden Fry statue in Coralville.

“The Cow-Calf not only honors Duffy and the Lyon family but agriculture in general. I was excited to hear that ISU and Iowa State Fair are finalizing their fundraising for replicas but remain proud that we are home to the original Cow Calf sculpture,” Mayor Sokol said.

Fundraising will continue for upkeep and additions such as landscaping and additional display items, a photo kiosk, and a viewing area to garner more attention in the future.
