Cross-county chase uncovers large quantity of drugs

A cross-county chase ensued Saturday evening bringing together four state and local law enforcement agencies.

The chase began at Highway 330 in Marshall County when an off-duty officer witnessed a driver enticing other drivers to engage in racing. The off-duty officer called the incident into the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

From Marshalltown Boulevard, the driver headed north on Highway 330 toward Albion reaching speeds of 90 miles per hour.

The chase led to Tama County and into Toledo. Due to road conditions officers were unable to maintain visual contact with the driver according to a report.

The car was later found unoccupied at K Avenue and Ross Street in Toledo.

Upon search of the vehicle, officers found large amounts of controlled substances including 10 grams of cocaine and 105 grams of methamphetamine, indicating the vehicle was involved in drug activity.

According to Marshall County Chief Deputy, Joel Phillips the identity of the driver is still unknown. The car was a rental with Arizona license plates.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Tama County Sheriff’s Office and the Toledo Police Department all assisted in the incident, which remains under investigation.
