Tama Council discusses library repairs, donation for South Tama tennis courts

Tama City Council members discussed repairs needed at the library. At the last meeting the council approved to cover the windows. John Legg, who is on the library board, is looking into a new product that could be used. Legg spoke with an employee of the TSP Architect firm about the sealant product, who has since retired.

“They’ll be covered but how they will be covered, we will see,” said Legg.

A concern about one of the new products discussed was that it would seal windows but not Legg was unsure if it would seal window frames.

“I’m speaking for the library board. We wouldn’t want to cover all of the windows. The light that comes in is valuable,” said John Legg.

The board and members of the council will continue to research products to find the best solution for sealing.

Donation for Tennis Courts at the school

The council discussed the request from Steve McAdoo for work to be done on the tennis courts at the STC High School. Council member Matt Beatty shared he felt that a donation would be better spent on a sidewalk than tennis courts. The work to be done on the tennis courts is around $400,000 according to City Clerk Alyssa Hoskey. The issue was tabled for the next council meeting.

Civic Center Bathroom Bids

The council approved to move forward with a bid from Haughey Construction for the bathrooms at the Civic Center. Total costs will be $55,305 overall cost.

Council members Aaron Haughey and Larry Thomas refrained from voting due to conflict of interest but the rest of the council members Emily Babinat, Matt Beatty and Anne Michael voted to approve.

Jeremy Weiermann also bid for the job. His total bid was for $26,400. This bid does not include HVAC, materials, plumbing or electrical.

Duane Pansegrau would like to donate a lot to the city of Tama. The council voted in favor of having city attorney, Dan Ratjen, draw up formal paperwork for Pansegrau to sign.
