Tama Council in short meeting on caucus night
The Tama City Council meet on Caucus night, Monday, Feb. 3 with a brief agenda. Members Matt Beatty, Aaron Haughey, Larry Thomas, Emily Babinat and Mayor Doug Ray were present. Anne Michael was absent.
After the consent agenda including approving minutes from a regular and budget meeting and paying bills was accepted, the council proceeded with the regular agenda items.
The council opened a public hearing for Max Tax Levy FY21. Tama is currently at 1.89. The tax levy would have to be explained to residents if it were to go over 2%. No public comments were made and the public hearing was approved and closed.
The council voted unanimously to waive the special assessments on two properties on John St. The city has acquired the properties at 504 and 508 John Street.
The council set a public hearing for March 2 at 5:30 p.m. for the budget.
Council Member and Ambulance Service Director Larry Thomas is working on ambulance matters. He also would like the codes updated for building inspections.
A work session was set for Monday, Feb. 10 to discuss codes.
