Lloyd resigns Tama Public Works director post

John Lloyd, Tama Public Works director since June 1, 2011, informed the City Council Monday night. Dec. 2, he is resigning effective Dec. 27.

Lloyd, 49, also is in his first term as mayor of Toledo. He did not seek reelection in November.

Lloyd said he has accepted the position as Prairie City Manager.

Lloyd began his career in city government in Gilbert located five miles north of Ames in Story County.

He served as the city clerk and city administrator in the town of 1,082 (2010 Census) population. While there, the city lost its water department operator and Lloyd took over those duties, he said.

Lloyd then became city manager of Cresco, the county seat of Howard County on the Iowa-Minnesota border in northeast Iowa.

He was currently paid $63,500 annually in the Tama position.

In action Monday the council on 4-0 votes:

approved adding a provision for city water-sanitary sewer customers to pay their bills on line through a service called Gov Pay Net. To use the payment method customers will pay a percentage of their water bill which will cost an average of $2.30 more according to City Clerk Alyssa Hoskey. Details of the payment method will become available when it is in place Hoskey said.

approved a tax abatement for Randy and Connie Zimmerman at 2095 Business Highway 30 for revitalization and remodeling of an existing commercial building on the site at a cost of $80,000.

approved Steve Dolash as a new member of the Tama ambulance Service.

payment totaling $6,489 to Club S.P.O.R.T. for the organization’s share of one-half of farm ground rental/ The club maintains the off-road vehicle park on Tama’a south side.

approved over-the-counter liquor sales license renewals for El Cerito Restaurant and the Tama Ballroom for a change in outdoor service area.

reviews Blue Cross health insurance coverage for city employees with insurance representative Matt Zmolek which showed a 9.92 percent premium hike.

approved payment totaling $12,650 to Quality Roofing and Siding, Marshalltown, for housing rehabilaition of 808 Siegel Street residence.
