Annual Iowa-Iowa State Reservice Officer run, ball exchange is here Friday

Cadet Battalions form the University of Iowa will be running the Iowa Hawkeye – Iowa State Cyclones game ball in the 28th annual event this Friday, Sept. 11, in Tama.

The ball will be run from the Lincoln Highway Bridge Park on East 5th Street to U.S. Highway 63 , then on to South Tama High and Elementary schools. The ball will be exchanged from U of I cadets to ISU cadets at the Tama-Toledo Country Club, 806 W. 13th St., at about 11:45 a.m.

The cadets collect items including dry pasta, cereal, baby wipes, and canned food along the route to support veterans and deployed military.

The Tama County I Club will host the cadets for lunch before Iowa State cadets head to Ames with the game ball.

The University of Iowa Hawkeyes face-off at Jack Trice Stadium, Ames against the Iowa State Cyclones at 3:45 p.m. Saturday.

The ball has traditionally been exchanged in Tama or Toledo since the inception of the event.

During the early years the exchange was made at halftime of South Tama football games on Trojan Field in Toledo.

It later was conducted at the Lincoln Highway Bridge Park with the cadet meal served there.
