September 25, 2019

Incumbents District 2 Director Mandy Lekin, Toledo, and District 3 Director Penny Tyynismaa, Tama, will be joined by Clint Werner, Chelsea, seeking the Director District No. 5 post as the only candidates on the Nov. 5 ballot for the South Tama School Board.

District 5 Director Jackie Dvorak, Chelsea, who has served on the school board since 1999 is not seeking another term.

In the South Tama School District board members must live within the boundaries of the district they represent. Voters district-wide cast ballots for all board seats.

The Nov. 5 election marks the first time city and school board elections have been combined.

For many years the school elections were in September with the city vote in November.

The Iowa Legislature voted to combine the election day with hopes of encouraging better voter turnout and as a cost saving measure.
