Cancer benefit for Joe Balvin on Sept. 28 at Chelsea

A benefit for Joe Balvin will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Chelsea Community Hall, 103 Dudley St, Chelsea.

Joe has recently been undergoing treatment for throat cancer. All proceeds from the benefit will help Joe and his family with expenses incurred during his treatment and recovery. Joe, and his wife, Colleen, grew up in the Chelsea area and currently reside at rural Elberon.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. with a free-will donation meal and a silent auction. A meal of pulled pork sandwiches, cheesy potatoes, Randy's famous baked beans, chips & a drink will be served from 4 7 p.m. The silent auction offers a variety of items that have been donated and will be sold to the highest bidder, with bidding closing at 7 p.m.

Also beginning at 4 p.m. is a bake sale which is sure to have a vast array of delicious baked goods (possibly including some Czech kolaches!). The bake sale will continue until all goodies are sold.

At 7 p.m,. a live auction will get underway. Just a few of the items that will be offered for sale to the highest bidder include a grill, fire ring, yard art, straw, hay and much more!

Pop and adult beverages will be available for purchase throughout the event from the Community Club at the hall.

Items for the bake sale may be brought to the Community Hall any time after 9 on the 28th. Please be sure the goods are packaged and ready for sale. Contact Kelly Balvin (641-485-2477) for more information about the bake sale.

An account has been established at Chelsea Savings Bank for those wishing to give a monetary donation. This can be done at any of the bank's branches (Chelsea, Belle Plaine, Clutier, Traer, or Van Horne).

Joe, Colleen, and their family greatly appreciate the support that has been shown to them and they look forward to seeing everyone the 28th.
