Thursday started out rainy but turned beautiful in time for the cross country meet. STC travelled to Grinnell where they competed at Ahrens Park.

Starting the evening were varsity girls. STC's Callie Frakes was the first Trojan across the finish line, taking 17th place with a time of 21:29. Following close behind was junior, Alyssa Chyma.

Chyma nailed the goal she set with her strength coach, Nate Van Dyke. Chyma wanted to shave off a few seconds from her 22:44 finish time from last week's meet at MCC. Chyma set out what she accomplished to do cutting nearly a minute off her time finishing at 21:54.

"At first I didn't think it was really real until I started the race but I was thinking I've been working up to this race training all summer. This course is a lot easier than Marshalltown. Van Dyke and I set the goal to finish at 22:30 and I beat it by a whole minute. I feel really proud and for everyone that cheers me on it makes me feel like they believe in me," said Chyma.

Chyma described the course as soft rolling hills. There were also some messy spots due to the rain earlier in the day but that didn't slow her down.

Also finishing for the girls were Jojo Tyynismaa, 66th with a time of 25:36, Abbigail Froelich, 83rd with a time of 27:03, Neena Lasley, 84th with a time of 27:12 and Makayla Backen, 89th with a time of 28:25

The girls varsity finished 13th with 266 points.

For the STC boys varsity they finished 10th with 291 points. Garrett Arp came in 33rd with a time of 18:52 along with Jair Sosa,37th with a time of 18:58, Logan Arp, 70th with a time of 20:33, Clayton Graff, 81st with a time of 21:16, Mitch Knock, 85th with a time of 21:30, Ethan Babinat, 87th with a time of 21:36 and Devon Slagle, 91st with a time of 22:33.

The Trojans were back on the MCC course on Thursday evening. Results will be in next week's Toledo Chronicle.
