Danette Ina Whitebreast

Danette Ina Whitebreast, 52, of Tama, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A Traditional Graveside Service will be held Sunday, September 1, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement with Larry Lasley Sr. as speaker. A Traditional Wake will be held Saturday evening at the Bear Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement.

Danette was born on September 29, 1966, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Janet (Youngbear) and Dean Whitebreast.

She attended Riverside Indian School in Anadarko, OK. She held several supporting roles in Tribal Operations throughout her career. Her last place of employment was at the Meskwaki Travel Plaza.

Danette enjoyed traveling, going to Pow Wows, Mickey Mouse, Soul and R&B music, time with grandchildren, friends, relatives and her canine companion, Albert. Most importantly, Nettey enjoyed putting a smile on people's faces and sharing laughs with everyone she met.

Survivors include her children, Sheena Whitebreast, Byron Wanatee (Kigidi) and Monroe Wanatee all of Tama; grandchildren, Ari, Reanna, Tyron, Leilani, and Kevryn; her mother, Janet Whitebreast of Tama; her father, Dean (Hattie) Whitebreast of Montour; three sisters, Dena Whitebreast of Tama, Deanna Westphal of Ocala, FL, and Denise Ahrens of Spring Valley, MN; two brothers, Arlan of Tama and Damon Whitebreast of Montour; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Helen Pritchett; one brother, Ira Dean Whitebreast Sr.; and a niece, Darcy Jo Keahna.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
