The Rev. Dennis Conway now serving Circle of Saints Cluster of Catholic churches

"I'm really excited to be here. I'm looking forward to getting to know and work with the people of the three parishes," the Rev. Dennis Conway said last week. "I am looking forward to accompanying these people as we move forward."

The Rev. Conway took over duties two weeks ago for the Circle of Saints Cluster upon his appointment by Archbishop Michael Jackels of the Archdiocese of Dubuque. He replaces the Rev. Mike Mescher who has retired.

The Circle of Saints Cluster includes the parishes of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Tama-Toledo, St. Joseph, Chelsea and St. Michael, Belle Plaine.

Rev. Conway, 28, has familiarity with the area having spent a pastoral year in Marshalltown and he grew up in Cedar Rapids beginning at age 6, where he attended Catholic schools

Of his decision to choose a religious career upon completion of high school, he says, "I was trying to think of the most important thing in life. I came to realize this is what really matters, I felt called to do it."

He attended Marquette University for one year then transferred to Loras College in Dubuque where he completed seminary training and receiving a degree in Philosophy. He next was in Marshalltown for pastoral duties,

Then it was on to the North America College in Rome for four years of study. He says although the college is located in Italy it is the largest U.S. seminary with some 250 students attending there.

He has just completed two years as associate pastor of the Spires of Faith Cluster which includes parishes in Dyersville, Worthington, Earlville, New Vienna and Petersburg.

In serving the Circle of Saints Cluster Father Conway celebrates Mass on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at St. Joseph, Chelsea, Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. at St. Michael in Belle Plaine and at St. Patrick, mass at 10:30 a.m. and a Mass in Spanish at 12:30 p.m.

Hie is assisted by Deacons Joe Behounek and Stan Upah and a full and partite office staff of six members.

A native of Huntsville, Ala. with his family moved to Cedar Rapids where his mother took a position as an engineer at Rockwell-Collins. His father is community director at All Saints Parish in Cedar Rapids.His sister, who is married, lives in Minneapolis.

In his free time Rev. Conway enjoys playing the piano, skies and golf.

Rev. Conway says he felt welcomed here just shortly after his arrival when parishioners noticed a tee limb down at his home before he did and cleaned it up.
