Montour Community Club focuses on Community Center

July 22, 2019
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The Montour Community Club met on July 15, at the community center. President Char Williams called the meeting to order with 11 members present.

The treasurer's report was read. Don Campbell shared that most of the income is from renting the community center for $50 plus $20 deposit. It was noted that nearby communities charge more for the use of their buildings. There are also donations from people in the community as well as from others that have ties to the Montour community. The city of Montour pays rent on the clerk's office and also takes care of the utilities for the center.

Some of the expenses are lawn mowing and weed-eating at $25 each mowing. Snow removal was $30-35 It was discussed that there is a communication problem with the snow removal folks as to when the center is occupied and needs immediate attention because of an event.

The folks renting the center are given a list of things that need to be taken care of before vacating the building. One of these items is trash removal which the renters are to take home with them as stated in the contract. Some are using the dumpster at Rube's Restaurant which needs to come to an end.

To eliminate the problem, Sue Eberhart made a motion to have trash picked up at the center for $19 a month or $57 a quarter. Geri Hoskey 2nd the motion. The motion passed.

A motion was made and passed for Vicki Garske to ask her husband to make a wood container that would fit 2 barrels for the trash coming from the community center.

It was noted that Don Campbell and the city clerk are the ones scheduling events at the center. It's a conflict of interest for the city to pay the clerk for doing community work. No further discussion was made.

Our next meeting , we will discuss a "town cleanup day". We would not be picking up trees, brush or garbage. If someone has appliances or tires to be picked up, they will need to purchase a sticker for the removal of those items. We would need volunteers, trucks, and trailers. More details will be discussed.

It was decided that the community center will need painted in Sept. Sue Eberhart will ask 5-6 people to come to paint the outside. Dustin Wright will power wash everything the day before the painting is to be done.. Vicki Garske will bring quotes from Sherwin Williams on the price of the paint needed.

Dustin Wright will check on price, etc. of exhaust fans for the bathrooms and for duct work going into the council room.

It was decided to continue putting Community Club information / meetings/ notices in with the Montour City water bills. Notices will also be provided at the post office and the community center. Dustin Wright will check on prices for printing the flyers/notices.

The Community Club meetings will continue to be held on the 3rd Monday of the month but changed the time to 7:00 p.m.

Char Williams has given us notice of resignation as president due to heath reasons and asked for someone to take her place. Coni Campbell also has asked to be replaced as secretary.

Dustin Wright showed an interest in this position of president and asked what all it entailed. A motion to elect Dustin was approved.

Geri Hoskey was asked to take Coni's position and was approved as well.

Sue Eberhart nominated Paula Eberhart for the treasurer job but she declined. Don Campbell said he would continue as treasurer.

As noted, the next meeting will be Aug. 19, 2019 at the community building at 7 :00 p.m.

Luther Heller and Vicki Garske made motions to adjourn.

-Geri Hoskey, secretary
