April 12, 2019
From Steve Bearden - Girls Tennis Coach , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

The South Tama County Girls Tennis Team traveled to Maquoketa on April 9th and recorded an 8-1 win in WaMaC Conference Action. The Trojans surrendered just 22 games over nine matches.

Senior Zoee Buffalo got South Tama off to a great start when she easily defeated Chloe Swanson at #2 Singles by a score of 8-1. After building a strong lead at 4-1, Buffalo's serve kicked into high gear as she dominated her opponent in a lopsided affair. Anna Glendy made quick work of her match at #3 Singles when she downed Allyson Lema 8-0. Glendy raced to a 5-0 lead and never let Lema into the match as she converted the win for South Tama.

Sophomore Hope Werner took on Jade Armbruster at #4 Singles. Werner took a slim lead at 2-1 before reeling off six straight games to secure the win by an 8-1 score. Senior Kaylynn Dunn faced Jaclyn Stone at #5 Singles. Dunn started strong while building a 4-1 lead before things stalled briefly. Stone grabbed the next two games to give herself hope, but in the end Dunn was the better player as she recorded an 8-3 victory for the Trojans.

Senior Queta Diego made her varsity debut against Jenna Wiebenga at #6 Singles after playing soccer last season. Shaking off the rust and hoping to improve her game, Diego grabbed an early 3-2 lead in the contest. As the match wore on, Diego steadied her nerve to snatch five of the next seven games to put up an 8-4 win.

Senior Abbie Morgan faced off against Mia Combs at #1 Singles. Despite feeling less than 100% physically, Morgan put up a fight against her steady opponent. Leading 5-4, Morgan dropped two games that allowed Combs to flip the momentum of the match. Utilizing a strong serve and a punishing backhand, Morgan fought her way back to even things at 7-7. Ultimately, Combs got the service break after an epic game that allowed her to record a 9-7 victory.

Morgan and Buffalo teamed at #1 Doubles to get some revenge against Combs and Swanson. The talented STC Seniors raced to a 4-1 advantage before things got a bit closer. In the end, Morgan and Buffalo gave up just two of the next six games to grab the 8-3 win.

Glendy and Diego teamed for the first time at #2 Doubles to face Lema and Armbruster. After not dropping a game in her singles match, Glendy was hoping for the same outcome in doubles. Racing to a 5-0 lead, the duo from STC looked every bit up to the challenge. In the end, Lema and Armbruster were no match as Glendy and Diego grabbed the match 8-0 to give Glendy a perfect night in winning all 16 games she played.

Werner and Dunn matched up against Stone and Wiebenga at #3 Doubles. Leading 4-1, Werner and Dunn successfully controlled the net as they dominated play. In the end, the team from South Tama recorded an 8-1 win.

In JV Action, many players played for the first time this season. The Trojans battled the Cardinals to a 5-5 tie. South Tama got wins from the doubles teams of Jaydee Thiessen/Skyler Steveson, Alexes Baeza/Hanah Novotny, Kaisha Wanatee/Molly Savage, Klohe Chyma/Jordyn Cremeans, and Lizbeth Sotelo/Katrina Garcia.
