Tama Snow Emergency Issued for Streets

Tama Mayor Mike Carnahan has declared a snow emergency in effect for all Tama streets from 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, to noon on Wednesday, Feb. 13. All vehicles MUST be kept off all city streets during the time period.

.The next storm system to impact Iowa will spread a wintry mix across southern Iowa later this morning. Later this afternoon the wintry mix is expected to change over to snow and expand across the state. Snowfall will become moderate to heavy tonight before ending Tuesday. Strong wind on the backside of this storm system will likely produce blowing and drifting snow Tuesday.

* WHAT...A period of mixed precipitation by mid afternoon then moderate to occasionally heavy snowfall will develop over the area late this afternoon and especially tonight. Snow accumulation by Tuesday morning expected to be from 5 to 7 inches. Winds gusting to 40 mph Tuesday producing patchy blowing snow and reduced visibility.

* WHERE...From the highway 30 corridor to the I-80 corridor and generally east of I-35.

* WHEN...From 3 PM this afternoon to 6 PM CST Tuesday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.
