South Tama girls faced another top ranked Class 4A team on Tuesday evening. The Trojans hosted Class 4A No. 1 ranked Marion, for what is now a non-conference contest. Marion used to be in the WaMaC west along with the Trojans but this year are now in the eastern division of the conference. The Indians won the Class 4A State title last year over Grinnell who the Trojans also have faced and lost to already this season.

From the tip off Marion made quick work of building a 22-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Indians are a team filled with shooters and whether it's driving through the lane for a layup or from the perimeter Marion gets it done nearly every time. Four of the five Marion starters finished with double digits with Kayba Laube leading with 15 points followed by Riley Wright with 13, and sisters Leah and Ella Van Weelden each finishing with 10.

South Tama's leading scorer, Jessica Musgrave, finished with nine points. She made two out her 14 shots but was 100% from the free throw line with four.

By halftime Marion had built up an even bigger 22 point lead at 40-18. Following half-time the Trojans production decreased. The Trojans went scoreless in the third quarter. Marion did not take their foot off the gas and won by 40 points, 65-25.

Madison Rohach finished the night with six points and five rebounds while Jaelin Berger had five points and three rebounds.

"You know I didn't feel too bad about the first half. We can live with those results. The second half was a disappointment for me. I didn't feel like we played as a team and that's what I told the girls after the game. I felt like we had a bunch of individuals on the court. We were trying to figure out why that happened. We've never had that in the past and it's something we've got to get away from. But the first half I thought this isn't bad against this team. We knew they had too many three point shooters and they were going to get open. They shoot almost 70%. They're going to hurt a lot of people doing that. So I was really happy with the first half but the second half I just felt like we didn't come back out of the locker room," said Head coach Todd Dale.

The Trojans will travel to Maquoketa (3-1) tonight, Friday, December 7.
