South Tama had a dominating performance over Independence on Tuesday, December 19. The Trojan girls welcomed the Mustangs to the Round House and defeated them 60-16.

Starting for the Trojans were Sadie Smith, Jessica Musgrave, Tylese Rosenberger, Jaelin Berger and Madison Rohach. Starting for Independence were Mattea Wall, Anna Ruffcorn, Mary Puffett, Lydia Butters and Tara Dryml.

Independence struggled mightily with ball control throughout the evening. STC was able to use that to its advantage. It was the first time this season that fans who have been watching the Trojans for the past couple of years saw truly saw the talent of Jessica Musgrave. Musgrave was in her element by forcing steals and running the court for fast break layups. She is just excellent in transition. Musgrave closed out her performance with 24 points, five rebounds, six assists and six steals.

The Trojans went to work in the first quarter outscoring Independence 28-5. South Tama held the Mustangs to just three points in the second quarter while advancing their lead to 47-8 going into the half. The clock ran continuously throughout the second half due to the 35-point rule. STC held the Mustangs to just two points in the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw STC Head Coach Todd Dale being able to utilize his bench players to close out the night.

"It always feels good to win," said Dale, "This was a game we felt like we should win so it was really good to come out and play the way we felt we should be playing. We've had a couple of games where we fell short of where we thought we should be playing so this is a good feeling."

Dale couldn't say enough about all of his team members calling it a true team win for the Trojans. "(The win) is a huge morale builder because it kind of showed us what we can do. The expectations that the coaching staff has put forth to the kids that this is where we should be and now we've just got to go over the Christmas break and add some stuff and build because we have a tough season when we come back," said Dale.
