A total of 1,541 students are enrolled in South Tama Schools this fall according to figures submitted to the Iowa Department of Education. Although the number is not technically certified yet, it represents what appears to be a decrease of 23 students or 1.47 percent over the 2016-17 enrollment of 1,565.

" The decrease in 24 was primarily a smaller Kindergarten enrollment than our graduating class, Superintendent Jeff Berger told The News-Herald.

However, Berger said, " We improved around 25 students on open enrollment compared to last year.
