South Tama Middle School student Keagan Dobbs, 14, Tama, is currently undergoing Chemo therapy for cancer. According to "Keagan's Story" on her internet website, her previous cancer treated in 2015 came back and was discovered on her lung earlier this year.

Staff and fellow students at the South Tama Middle School in Toledo showed their caring for classmate Keagan during an assembly in her honor Thursday afternoon, Nov. 16.

It began with a program via Skype - an internet feature which allows live picture and voice communication- which provided a live feed and question she had to make a tough decision; Either never be able to have children or take out the healthiest eggs and freeze them until she's ready. Keagan loves children and always wanted kids of her own, she is a perfect mother type. So Keagan decided to freeze her eggs so she could have the full mothering experience. Unfortunately the cost of freezing her eggs and the $1,000 shot she had to take in order to allow her body to drop her healthiest eggs isn't covered by insurance, so this whole process costs around $11,000.

Fact Box

To Aid Keagan:

keagansteamforlife for more information

Shannon Dobbs, mother of Keagan, is a single mom with five kids who is currently on disability due to a car accident, is unable to pay upfront for Keagan's eggs to be frozen. So the hospital is allowing a payment plan, which is still too high for Shannon's yearly expenses. This page is to help Shannon and her family get by without having to worry about having nothing to eat, having no heat / AC, electricity, running water, or even having a place to call home. Also the weekly trips to Iowa City from their hometown is at least one hour and a half, so their van requires a lot of gas. Shannon and Keagan also require a lot of gas, like food and drinks.

When they're forced to stay up in Iowa City for more than a few days they have to stay in a hotel without any help. So out of Shannon's own pocket she has to pay for the hotel room and food for the entire time they're there. They have to go up there once to twice a week, which would end up costing at the least $40 a week.

The two strive away from eating out due to these expenses, so they bring food from home. So Shannon tries to buy groceries every two weeks, which again that all adds up by the end of the month. With your donations, you will be helping tremendously with many things such as; helping Keagan pay off her medical bills, helping Shannon with her bills at home, keeping food on the table for her children, helping them keep a roof over their heads, and many more financial problems. Our goal is $12,000+here at Keagan's Team.
