Myron Isaac Wanatee Sr., 80, of Tama, passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. A Wake was held Saturday evening, October 7, 2017, at the Myron Wanatee Sr. Residence, 208 Sac and Fox Road on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Native American Church Services will be held on Sunday evening, October 8, 2017 at the Myron Wanatee Residence, on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Monday, October 9, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the McIntosh Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Larry Lasley as speaker.

Myron was born on June 6, 1937, in Tama, the son of Michael and Lyda (Wabaunasee) Wanatee Sr. He was united in marriage to Carmen Marlene Lasley on March 5, 1960 in Tama. Myron was retired from the Iowa Department of Transportation. He was a jack of all trades who loved his family dearly. His hobbies included working on cars, maintaining his lawn, and he enjoyed dancing at pow-wows with his family. Myron's faith was rooted in the Native American Church where he was a lifelong member.

Survivors include his wife Carmen of Tama; children, Myron (Joy) Wanatee Jr. of Marshalltown, Mylene Wanatee, Lowella (Ruperto) Balderas, Marcus (Jennie) Wanatee, and Melinda (Tom) Wanatee Diego all of Tama; grandchildren, Byron (Kigidi), Eden, Fidencio (Natasha), Monroe, Araya, Kayla, Regina, Tyra, Mira, Enriqueta, Mylik, Salvador Jr., Zekaria, Ella, Consuelo, Shinobi, and Raiden; great-grandchildren, Reanna, Tyron, Maddox, Leilani, Clive, and Kevryn; brothers, Oscar Wanatee of Oklahoma City, OK, Joe (Peggy) Wanatee of Tama, and Michael (Carma) Wanatee of Tama; and many, many more relatives near and far.

Preceding him in death were his parents; grandparents; daughter, Corina Wanatee-Minjares; granddaughter, Consuelo Minjares; sister, Priscella Wanatee-Potts; brother, William Wanatee Sr.; two infant sisters; one infant brother; and several other relatives.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
