The South Tama Trojans participated in the Marshalltown Bobcat Cross Country meet on Thursday, September 7 at the MCC campus. The meet brought in 21 schools with a wide variety of competition including Des Moines schools Dowling, Valley and Waukee and smaller schools such as BCLUW and Iowa Falls-AGWSR.

9th/10th grade races

The competition began with the 9th/10th grade boys race. There were 271 who participated in that race. Tyrin Lasley finished 50th for the Trojans with a time of 19:35. Ethan Babinat came in 234th with a time of 24:25 in the 9th/10th grade boys race.

In the 9th/10th grade girls race Espy Waseskuk ran for the Trojans. She finished 63rd out of 157 girls with a time of 24:43.

JV races

Out of 264 running in JV boys action STC's Nick Jordan finished 184th with a time of 21:59. Daniel Ochoa came in 254th with a time of 26:15.

In JV girls action Steph Slaven returned to running after sitting out last season with an injury. Slaven finished 177th with a time of 27:48 and Jennifer Nunez finished 183rd with a time of 28:04. Overall there were 253 JV girl entries.

Varsity races

Chase Branan was the sole runner for the STC boys varsity team. He finished 110th with a time of 19:01.

Lastly was the Varsity girls run. Jessica Musgrave and Kelsie York-Morris represented the Trojans. Musgrave finished 66th with a time of 21:43 while York-Morris finished 98th with a time of 24:09.

Musgrave, a junior, ran cross country when she was in 7th grade but this is her first season at the high school level.

Musgrave joined the team after being recruited by her friend and fellow teammate Callie Frakes. She is taking this as an opportunity to not only spend time with her friend but also to condition for basketball.

"(The competition) is very fierce and there is a lot of good competition. I didn't really expect that but now I am kind of getting the feel for it," said Musgrave.

Frakes, who was STC's lone State Qualifier last season, did not compete at the Marshalltown race. She is recovering from a hip injury she sustained due to her foot injury from last year. She returned to competition at STC's home meet on Monday, September 11.

"Our team continues to get better and several runners had PRs at the Marshalltown meet. Callie Frakes is close to getting through her injury and should be ready for our home meet this Monday. The kids are working hard and we are having fun along the way. This is a great group of kids to be coaching," said coach Robert Tynnismaa.
