Tama Ambulance Service's need for volunteer EMTs and drivers, especially for weekends, has prompted a call for an increase in on-call and trip pay. Duane Backen, Ambulance Service director, told the Tama City Council on Monday night, Aug. 7, it is hoped boosting pay for on-call time from the current $3 to $4 hourly would attract new members as well as former volunteers. Trip pay would be increased from $15 to $20.

The increases would cost a total of $180 weekly.

The runs pay the same whether the ambulance transports to nearby locations in Marshalltown or Grinnell or more distance hospitals such as in Iowa City or Des Moines.
