What's Happening at the Wieting?

July 13, 2017
By RLou Snyder , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

Summer is a good time to get in your vehicle and drive to Gladbrook to visit 2 interesting and inspiring things.

First is the newest matchstick model that Pat Acton has created. After using 910,000 matches, 20 gallons of wood glue and working 2,500 hours his model of "Star Wars Millennium Falcon is currently on display at Matchstick Marvels tourist center in Gladbrook IA.

The display will be in Gladbrook until July 25 when it will be placed in one of Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museums. You don't have much time to see it-do it now!

Another venue to go see is the Freedom Rock for Tama County. It is on the east edge of Gladbrook on state highway 96. The veteran's groups have made a wonderful area for the public to view the rock and note all the veterans of Tama County. Whoever thought of putting the veteran's bricks in well covered and well displayed cases are to be commended. Thank you to "Bubba" Sorenson for designing and painting the rock. For our neighbors west of Toledo, Meskwakis, a wonderful tribute to the code talkers also.

One last comment. What did they used to call Gladbrook and why? I know, do you?

"See ya at the Wieting_ _ _"
