Joni Hayward-Helm speaks to Kiwanis

March 14, 2017
Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

At the Feb. 22 Toledo-Tama Kiwanis meeting, John Lloyd led the group in a rousing song and in the pledge. Cindy Roth gave the prayer. The group enjoyed Iowa chops, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, two salads, and chocolate cake.

Cindy Roth introduced Joni Hayward-Helm who presented the program. Joni has a passion for research, and this has led her into investigating the old homes in Tama and Toledo.

The group recognized many of the pictured homes and was aware of who currently lives in them. However, many homes had a history that was surprising. Joni's research led her to find the first courthouse in the county that was located in a log cabin in the Tama area.

Her presentation fascinated her audience. She intends to continue her research and develop new programs.

President Sara Feisel reminded the group the Golden Ruler evening is March 21 when outstanding middle school students are honored.

Kiwanis meets every Wednesday at noon at the Country Club. New members are always welcome for an excellent lunch, interesting programs, and an opportunity to participate in the work that supports and encourages the young people in our communities.
