Ex-Tama Police Chief faces federal indictment

Jeffrey Filloon, 47, Toledo, was indicted by a federal Grand Jury in Cedar Rapids on Dec. 6 for allegedly selling impounded vehicles and firearms which were police department weapons or weapons held in evidence and pocketing the proceeds. He is charged with two counts of making false statements to a special agent of the FBI and with two counts of possessing, selling and disposing of a stolen firearms.

Filloon was serving as Tama Police Chief during the alleged sales.

He was to appear in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids on Monday according to Tony Morfort, the public information officer for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Cedar Rapids.

In federal court documents it is alleged Filloon sold the property from Aug. 13, 2103 - March 18, 2015.

The sales as recorded in the indictment include:

Aug. 13, 2013- a Mossberg 500 A pump shotgun being held in evidence sold to the General Store Pawn and Gun Shop, Marshalltown, for $2000 including another firearm in the sale price.

Aug. 19, 2013 a Heckler & Koch USP Tactical .45 caliber pistol, formerly a duty weapon of a retired Tama Police officer sold to the General Store Pawn and Gun Shop, Marshalltown, for $450.

March 6, 2014 antique black powder .44 caliber revolver being held in evidence sold to the General Store Pawn and Gun Shop, Marshalltown, for $75.

March 5, 2015 impounded motor vehicles including a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix, 1994 Ford Econoline E150 and a 1994 Ford explorer to Sandhill Auto Salvage, Tama, for $650.

March 18,2015 an impounded 1996 Chevrolet C1500 truck to Sandhill Auto Salvage, Tama for $250.

Filloon resigned as police chief on Aug. 10, 2015.

He had previously served on the Toledo Police Force before becoming a Tama officer and served one term on the Toledo City Council as council member-at-large. His term ended Dec. 31, 2015. He did not seek reelection.
