With the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) preseason volleyball rankings being released on Mon. Aug. 25, South Tama may be beginning to feel the reality of moving back into the familiar WaMaC conference.

The WaMaC conference is made up of 16 teams and is broken into an east and west division. Teams in the east division include West Delaware, Solon, Mount Vernon, Epworth, Beckman Catholic, Maquoketa, Central Clinton-DeWitt and Anamosa. Teams in the West Division include Independence, Marion, Center Point-Urbana, Williamsburg, Clear Creek-Amana, Vinton-Shellsburg, Benton of course your STC Trojans.

Out of the 16 teams that make up the WaMaC conference, six are ranked among

Class 3A and 4A. In Class 3A the rankings are as follows: Solon (1), Mount

Vernon (2), Independence (4), Beckman Catholic (10) In Class 4A the

rankings are as follows: West Delaware (2), Marion (4), Clear Creek-Amana

(6).

Several teams will be vying for the WaMaC conference championship title but

if you look at 2013 stats alone, the top teams to beat appear to be West

Delaware (East) and Independence (West). West Delaware finished 37-6 in

2013 and look to return a majority of their roster, graduating just two

seniors. They are not to be outshined however by Independence who carries a

very valuable weapon in senior Shelby Lehman. Lehman's 2013 stats include

113 sets, 330 kills with 183 kill errors, 927 attack attempts and 341

serves with 377 serve attempts.

It may be too early to determine a conference champ but all will come to

fruition at the WaMaC tournament set to be hosted by Mount Vernon on Oct. 21.

Before making it to the tournament however, the Trojans will have to

qualify in pool play on Oct. 16. There will be two locations for the first

round of the tournament yet to be determined. The teams will be seeded for

play in the Oct. 21 tournament.
