Tama County District Court

Before Judge Robert E. Sosalla in Tama County District Court in Toledo:

Steven Melvin Cooley, 64, Cedar Rapids, was sentenced to five years in prison to be served concurrently with a Linn County sentence for 3rd degree burglary. He was directed to pay $1,650 restitution to Jeff and Debra Upah, rural Chelsea.

Cooley was charged after allegedly entering the rural farm house by kicking in the garage door and crawling through the pet door. Once inside he took a check book and two digital cameras. He was recorded on surveillance tape at an Iowa City bank cashing a check on the account for $717.

Parnell J. Roberts, 41, rural Tama, pled guilty to failure to comply with Sexual Offender Registry. He was sentenced to a two-year, suspended prison term and fined $625. He was placed on supervised probation to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services and to pay a $300 supervisory fee.

He may perform community service in lieu of paying court financial obligations it was ruled.

Roberts was charged on April 16 with a March 15, 2014, Sexual Offender Registry for allegedly listing a home address at which he did not reside. The charge was filed by Tama County Deputy Sheriff Michael Wright.

Curtis Matthew Sisk, 49, Des Moines, entered a written guilty plea to 1st offense drunken driving. He was sentenced to 48 hours in jail or may complete the Weekend OWI Program and was fined $1.250. Of the fine amount, $625 may be suspended if proof of installation of an ignition interlock device is provided to the court.

He may perform community service in lieu of paying court financial obligations it was ruled.

Sisk was charged on March 22 on U.S. Highway 63 near P Avenue by Tama County Deputy Sheriff Casey Schmidt.
