By John Speer - Editor (jspeer@tamatoledonews.com) , Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

A new extension for the South Tama Recreation Trail has been approved. The area will encircle an area including the Tama County Off-Road Vehicle Park Campground, areas to the north and east and Tama's wastewater treatment plant.

The new route will cover about a mile in distance according to Tama Street Superintendent Stuart Eisentrager.

The new trail extension was formally approved by the Tama City Council on Aug. 4. Most of the path will be covered in crushed limestone. (See satellite.lite map at right.)

The trail, which currently is 6.33 miles in length, extends from West Ross Street in Toledo southward through Tama to Cherry Lake on the southwest side. It circles the lake and extends to the south east.

A grant has been obtained by the Trail and ORVH Park boards to purchase and have a culvert installed on a creek on the west side of U.S. 63 behind the Jiffy South convenience store location.
