Smith graduates, set to play for Kirkwood

August 12, 2014

Kolton Smith was the lone senior for the STC baseball team this season. Smith has played a huge role in the STC baseball program throughout his high school career. While he may be the only senior to replace next year it will be a huge hole to fill. Smith's talents at the plate along with his speed and defensive prowess made him a reliable leader for the Trojans.

Coach Seth Koch spoke of Smith's superb work ethic and his willingness to make sacrifices at the annual STC Baseball Banquet on Sunday August 3.

Smith, who led the NICL West Conference in home runs (7) and batting average (.444), ended his season in style by hitting a home run in his last at bat during the Clear Creek-Amana game. He also closed his senior year with several awards including a NICL West first team selection, NICL Most Outstanding Player (tied-Nick Long, East Marshall), Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association All District First Team (C), and the Iowa Newspaper Association's All-State Team third team selection (C). Smith will be playing for Kirkwood's baseball team next year.
