Mary Jo Mullen, 66, Toledo, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 7, at Evangelical Free Church, 3111 S. 6th Street, Marshalltown. A memorial fund has been established in her name. Mary Jo was born July 9, 1948, n Cherokee, Iowa, to Arthur and Pearl (Nelson) Allen. She graduated from Yale-Jamaica-Bagley High School and then received her bachelor's degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo. Mary Jo was united in marriage on Jan. 25, 1970 to Robert "Bob" Mullen in Bradgate, Iowa. She worked as an educator at many different schools, including: South Page, La Porte City, Chelsea and South Tama, retiring from there in 2003.
Mary Jo's faith was very important to her, she was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Marshalltown. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with friends, reading, especially to her granddaughters and loved visiting Okoboji. She faithfully served many years at the House of Compassion. Most important though was spending time with her family, including her sons and grandchildren.

Mary Jo is survived by her husband, Bob Mullen, two sons, Travis (Hannah) Mullen, Toledo, and Eli Mullen, Chelsea; two granddaughters, Gloria and Silvia Mullen, Toledo, one brother, Jack (Mary) Allen, Waverly, and numerous other family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
