Toledo Chronicle, Tama News-Herald

Mid-Iowa?Community Action (MICA) will be administering applications for the Iowa Disaster Assistance Grant to local families in need of assistance due to damage resulting from the storm beginning June 26, 2014.

The program, which is managed by the Iowa Department of Human Services, provides grants of up to $5,000 to make repairs or replace damaged goods. People with household incomes of up to twice the federal poverty level are eligible to participate. For a family of two, the maximum gross annual income would be about $31,000.

To schedule an appointment to apply for the Iowa Disaster Assistance Grant, visit the MICA Family Development Center 105 S. State St. in Tama or call 641-484-4713.

To complete the application, you will need to bring proof of income, photo identification for all adults in the household, and a copy of your homeowner's, renter's or vehicle insurance. If you are already enrolled in an income-eligible MICA program such as LIHEAP or WIC, you do not need to bring further proof of income. The disaster assistance grants are only available to legal residents of the affected county. Applicants must file within 45 days of the governor's disaster declaration. The deadline to apply in Hardin county is August 25th.
