Clarence John Frideres

Clarence John Frideres died on Friday, July 18, 2014, at Kossuth Regional Health Center at the age of 94. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, July 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Algona. Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona is in charge of arrangements - www.oakcrestfuneralservices.com

Clarence was born Nov. 29, 1919 at Ottosen, Iowa, to Nicholas and Josephine (Origer) Frideres. Clarence was schooled through the 8th grade at St. Joseph and began working on the farm at age 16. At age 21, he enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1942 - 1945. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the Algona area and was married to Fidelis Thilges on May 14, 1946, in West Bend. The couple farmed in the LuVerne area until 1982. In 1981, they moved off the farm and into Algona.

Clarence enjoyed fishing, baking, playing cards, woodworking and barbecuing chicken. He and Fidelis also traveled and spent winters in Texas for 25 years. He was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his daughter Betty and husband John Hayek of Clutier, Richard Frideres and his special friend Pat of West Bend, Iowa, Arlo and his special friend Deb of Denison, and Dean and wife Linda of LuVerne, as well as 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Also surviving is sister Laura Kramer of Algona. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Fidelis in June, 2010, sisters Rosalia Erpelding and Susie Beck, brothers Edmund, Harold, and Martin Frideres; daughter-in-law Deborah Frideres, and grandson Jason Frideres.
