Week four of Summer Reading
On July 1 the 1st grade and older kids had their last weekly program of the summer. We did a little experimenting of our own, using a magnet, microscope, poprocks and fizz tabs. We made slime and made chalk art and bubbles. Also, outside we did the diet coke and Mentos experiment, twice.
Everyone got temporary tattoos. We learned about germs so all who wanted to turn into Zombies (from the germs), did. The face painting was fun and we found out which kids don't mind getting messy. Staff and volunteers did the face painting and I want to thank them for being brave since we hadn't tried it on our own before. Professional face painting artist Pam Moody did us a great favor by telling us exactly what products to purchase and made several little videos for us to learn the How-To basics. Volunteer face painters were Anne Michael, Alexia Hoffman, Lauren and Allison Yuska, and Nyana Eubanks. My two slime volunteers were Roman Hill and Nic Morrow. Tuesday's drawing winners were: Daniela Barientos, Kaeden Davidson, Bailey Davidson, Gustavo Chavarria, Wade Cosgrove, Jorge Herrera, Roman Hill, Mayla Kiebach, Cairo Manzo, Kaylin Mitchell, Nic Morrow, Cassie Ragsdale, Almendra Ramirez, Jo Jo Tyynasmaa, Aldo Vallez and Ashley Vallez. Our attendance was down due to the flooding, with a total of only 70.
The “Zombies” program.
Our Thursday group met July 3.
We read Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss. The kids did paint sheets, got tattoos and had their hands painted with pictures of rainbows, flowers, cats and a snake. They made chalk sidewalk art and played with the bubbles. Everyone at both weekly programs had ice pops for treats and all also got an egg with slime inside to take home. Thursday's winners were: Juliana Victoreen, Megan Victoreen, Makaela Hill, Rayden Hill, Ayden Dunsmoor, Giselle Herrera and Ariana Behounek.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 5 ,at 1:30 p.m. for all ages. We will find out who the big winners will be. We will draw for prizes and everyone that attends will win something. Kids should remember to keep reading and keeping their logs for prizes. The last day to turn in logs will be July 31st. This year's theme "Fizz, Boom, Read" has been fun. So many of the children came to tell me they had so much fun and thanked me for doing the programs. I want to pass the thanks from those children on to our sponsors, without all their donations we couldn't have learned so much cool stuff.
Kids, keep reading and don't forget to attend Tuesday August 5th at 1:30. Like us on Facebook-Tama Public Library. Check out our Mentos Geyser video and pictures from every program. Zombies
