A lightning strike Friday afternoon, June 27, split the ash tree in front of Roger and Jan Koniceks' home at 1511 Grant St. in Tama which the Koniceks and neighbor, the Rev. Paul Rendall are shown observing. The strike was described as "a large ball of fire" which Pastor Rendall and carpenter Billy Dreesman observed from their vantage point in an addition being built on the pastor's home across the street. It caused the Pastor to remark afterward something about "being a little closer to Heaven" after experiencing the strike. Roger Konicek also commented, "If there were any of those ash borers in the tree, they're gone now." The tree had to be removed.
